Gladstone School District
Adopts High School Mathematics Materials

The 2013-2014 school year will present big challenges for the Mathematics Department at Gladstone High School.  With the adoption of the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS), it is clear that our Math Department needed new textbooks to address these standards.  Pearson Mathematics:  Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 Common Core Editions incorporate a blend of print and digital components that will ensure that our Math teachers can confidently teach the CCSS.

After reviewing several options, this resource was selected because it would build on the materials used in middle school to provide not just core instructional materials, but also include supplements that would allow teachers to support students who need more individualized instruction.  A wealth of resources will accompany the Common Core editions.  Along with the teacher’s edition, there are teaching resources DVDs, practice and problem solving workbooks, Common Core Standards practice and review, Common Core test prep, and CDs that generate tests, give answers and solutions, and provide lesson support.
PowerAlgebra.com and PowerGeometry.com are the digital component for the series.  The digital component includes many assets, including the student and teacher’s editions, instruction and presentation tools, student-generated videos, classroom management tools, and online assessment with remediation.

The Math Department is excited and confident that these books will help students successfully navigate the new CCSS.  Samples of these materials are available for public viewing and comment at the District Office, 17789 Webster Rd., Gladstone.  The District welcomes review by community members for the duration of the month of August.

Notice is hereby given that on November 6, 2012, a special election will be conducted by mail in conjunction with the General Election in the County of Clackamas County, Oregon, at which time will be submitted to qualified voters of the City of Gladstone the following question:
CAPTION:    Authorization to construct and incur debt to finance new library
QUESTION:    Shall Gladstone authorize construction and incurrence of a maximum debt of $7.5 million to finance a new $10 million library?
SUMMARY:    This measure authorizes the Gladstone City Council to incur debt through the issuance of municipal bonds to finance and construct a new Gladstone library.
Funding sources to finance, construct, and operate the new library:
•    Clackamas County Capital Contribution – One
time contribution of $2.5 million.
•    Clackamas County Library Fund – Library support of approximately $1.32 million per year, increased from $537,000 the City currently receives.
•    Gladstone Urban Renewal Agency Funds – Current and future revenues for the Gladstone Urban Renewal Agency ranging from $140,763 to $261,070 per year depending on loan repayment period.
•    City General Fund- Increased Clackamas County Library District funds for library operations will allow the City to redirect General Fund money of approximately $114,365 per year that is currently allocated for library operations to pay part of debt incurred for the library.
The design for the new library is approximately 97% complete. The City has spent $1,189,278 and cannot recover that money if the project is not completed.

There are no new taxes associated with this proposal.

This ballot title was received by the City Recorder of the City of Gladstone on Wednesday, August 23, 2012.  An elector may file a petition for review of this ballot title with the Circuit Court of Clackamas County  no later than 5 p.m. on August 30, 2012.  Any elector who files a petition to review the ballot title must notify the City Recorder in writing that the petition has been filed no later than 5:00 PM on the next business day following the day the petition is filed.
