NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF BALLOT TITLE

CITY OF FOREST GROVE CITY COUNCIL NOTICE OF RECEIPT OF BALLOT TITLE Pursuant to ORS 250.275, an election will be held on November 7, 2017. Notice is hereby given that a ballot title for a measure referred by the Forest Grove City Council has been filed with the City Elections Officer of Forest Grove on June 26, 2017. An elector may file a petition for review of the ballot title in the Washington County Circuit Court no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 7, 2017, as provided in ORS 250.296. The ballot title is as follows: CAPTION: RENEWAL OF CURRENT OPERATING LEVY TO MAINTAIN CITY SERVICES QUESTION: Shall Forest Grove renew the operating levy of $1.60 per $1,000 to maintain City services for five years beginning 2018-19? This measure renews current local option taxes. SUMMARY STATEMENT: This measure would renew the current operating levy approved by voters in 2012, which expires June 2018. Renewing the levy would help pay for continuing police, fire, emergency medical response, park maintenance, and library services. The majority of the levy would go to the Forest Grove Police and Fire Departments and the remainder would go to parks maintenance and library services. The City Council placed this measure on the ballot to maintain services and programs for police, fire, parks, and library, such as: Police would maintain: Patrol officers and neighborhood patrol Detective for investigations including fraud and elder abuse Child and domestic violence intervention Narcotics and street crime enforcement Fire would maintain: Current response times for emergency calls Fire prevention, public education, and safety programs Disaster preparedness Parks would maintain upkeep of current parks, trails, playgrounds, ball fields, and natural areas Library would maintain children and adult programs and public internet access Estimated revenues for each year of levy: $2,531,715 in 2018-19 $2,607,667 in 2019-20 $2,685,897 in 2020-21 $2,766,474 in 2021-22 $2,849,468 in 2022-23 ANY ELECTOR WHO IS DISSATISFIED WITH THE BALLOT TITLE MAY PETITION THE CIRCUIT COURT OF WASHINGTON COUNTY TO REVIEW THE BALLOT TITLE NO LATER THAN 5:00 P.M. ON FRIDAY, JULY 7, 2017. If an elector files a petition to review the ballot title with the Circuit Court, the elector must name the City of Forest Grove City Council as respondent; state the reasons why the ballot title is insufficient, not concise or unfair; and notify the Washington County Elections official in writing that a petition has been filed.
