CITY OF FOREST GROVE
ELECTION FOR CITY COUNCIL
FOREST GROVE – On November 8, 2016, General Election, citizens of Forest Grove will vote to fill three City Councilor positions (Councilors Richard Kidd, Victoria Lowe and Elena Uhing are eligible for re-election). A person seeking a City of Forest Grove elective office must be a registered voter and must be a resident of Forest Grove, residing for at least one year immediately preceding the election, and must file by petition and collect 25 certified signatures from Forest Grove electors. Each position carries a four-year term. The positions are elected from the City at-large and candidates who receive the highest number of votes are elected.
The City of Forest Grove has a Council-Manager form of government. Elected officials decide the policies and goals for the City and a professional management team, under the direction of the City Manager, carries out the Council’s policies and objectives. Council meetings are normally held in the evening twice a month on the second and fourth Monday of each month. In addition to attending Council meetings, Councilors attend other meetings as necessary and serve as liaison to other local, regional, and citizen advisory boards, committees, and commissions. Councilor position is paid $100.00 per month stipend and option to enroll in the City’s health insurance plan.
Candidacy Election Packets are available at the City Recorder’s Office, 1924 Council Street, Second Floor, during normal business hours, or online: http://www.forestgrove-or.gov/city-hall/recorders-office-elections.html. Filing for Candidacy is no earlier than 9:00 a.m., July 11, 2016 (120-days before election) and petition is not considered completed until signature sheets (25 signatures) are certified and filed with the City Recorder no later than the filing deadline date of 5:00 p.m., August 30, 2016 (70-days before election).
